Immersive microsite lets Harris Theater patrons explore new season

Rare. Legendary. Epic. These are just a few of the words critics are using to describe the three masterworks being performed in the upcoming 2017–18 season of Harris Theater Presents, a performing arts program curated by Harris Theater in Millennium Park. For thirteen seasons, Harris Theater Presents has brought internationally acclaimed organizations and productions to Chicago — shows you don’t want to miss.

For its fourteenth season, Harris Theater Presents has scheduled what promises to be the most memorable lineup yet — three tour de force productions.

Harris Theater was eager to generate buzz for this bold new season and entice patrons to buy tickets early. Jell embraced the challenge with a splashy, immersive microsite that offers a visual approach to exploration. Clicking one of the production images allows you to dive deeper and move fluidly between photos, video interviews, program notes, and reviews.

First on the docket: In honor of Claudio Monteverdi’s 450th anniversary, his three surviving operas will get their U.S. premiere on the Harris Theater stage. The three pieces — L’Orfeo, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, and L’incoronazione di Poppea — will be performed by the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists and led by conductor Sir John Eliot Gardiner.

Second: American Ballet Theatre will feature two programs consisting of a total of five creations (more are expected to be added to the repertoire), as well as the debut of iconic dancer Misty Copeland, who will take the Harris Theater stage in 2018.

And finally: Mark Morris Dance Group, along with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble and mugham vocalists Alim Qasimov and Fargana Qasimova, will bring to life to the story some call “the Romeo and Juliet of the East,” Layla and Majnun.
