Just about everyone in Chicago who works in the video industry — or has any familiarity with youth-centric not-for-profits — knows about Free Spirit Media. FSM has been at it for 13 years, providing thousands of youth from the West and South Sides of Chicago with life-transforming opportunities to acquire skills in critical thinking, self-expression, and media production.
But here’s one branch of their activities that, until now, has been less well publicized: Free Spirit Media has a professional, for-hire division. Some of FSM’s most committed and talented alumni stay on to do paid work for clients. Working with senior FSM staff, this “pro” crew can do anything from shooting a live event to producing a gala video. Historically, most of their clients have been other non-profits (e.g., Adler Planetarium, Poetry Foundation, Mikva Challenge, Chicago Urban League, WTTW), but they have also been hired by the likes of CareerBuilder, Nike, and Lollapalooza.
Until this week, the for-hire team flew very quietly under the banner of “Free Spirit Productions,” but we’ve been working with Jeff McCarter for the past several months to raise their visibility. Today, we launched their new identity — now rechristened “Free Spirit PRO” — along with a responsive website displaying some of their recent work.
Where do Free Spirit PRO’s strengths lie? The team excels at capturing impact — especially social impact — whether it’s a matter of documenting a corporate program or interviewing a foundation’s grantees. If you’d like to create a video for your organization while providing in-the-trenches career experience for some talented Free Spirit youth, head on over to their new site to hire Free Spirit PRO.
